There is always something special happening at Knollwood Retirement Community, and one of the greatest blessings our residents enjoy is the love that surrounds them.
Throughout the week, our halls are filled with visits from children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors, ministers, and so many familiar faces from the community. It is a beautiful reminder that the relationships built over a lifetime continue to bring joy and comfort.
One Saturday each month, however, some especially delightful visitors arrive with wagging tails and wet noses! This weekend, our wonderful friends from Love On A Leash, led by Denise West, Metro-East Chapter Leader, were out in full swing, bringing smiles, laughter, and lots of tail wags to our residents. It was truly a sight to behold! Every resident seems to have a favorite pup, and it’s easy to see why.
These special visits do so much more than brighten the day. Interacting with dogs has been shown to:
🐾 Boost mood by increasing feel-good hormones like serotonin while reducing stress.
🐾 Encourage conversation, laughter, and social connection, helping reduce feelings of loneliness.
🐾 Support physical health by lowering blood pressure and encouraging gentle movement through petting and play.
🐾 Spark treasured memories and promote calmness for residents living with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
The unconditional love of these four-legged friends brings comfort, companionship, and joy to everyone they meet. We are incredibly grateful to Love On A Leash, Denise West, and all of the dedicated therapy dog teams for sharing their time and their amazing dogs with our Knollwood family. We already look forward to their next visit!
